Women’s Footballer of the Year 2022

 

The BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award is now in its’ eighth year and continues to grow as the profile and popularity of women’s football has increased. The success of the 2022 Euros showed that women’s football is finally being recognised by a more mainstream audience.

For 2022 there was an opportunity for the public to make their vote count as 5 nominees were in contention to win. I was responsible for all of the player retouching, including action shots that were to be used in video teasers, as well as player headshots which became the five player key art that would be used across the whole digital campaign.

I created and artworked all of the digital assets ranging from, Instagram social posts, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube headers plus countdown cards, leaderboards, MPUs and animated gifs.

The new campaign branding was key in creating a sense of legacy and ceremony so that previous winners of WFOTY could be celebrated too. The aim was to increase voting for the event and engage with a young female audience.

Top: The original headshots as supplied. Bottom: My retouched 5 player key art. It was important that these worked as one image so skin tone and colouring were also adjusted as well as cutting out the players and removing any sports branding.
